Spotify India’s streaming trends showing, the country’s non-film music listening audience is one that likely prefers polished, electronic-informed Hindi and English pop.

According to data accumulated in the last two weeks, the “most popular indie artists” on Spotify India are producer-singer Ritviz (whose May 2020 release “Thandi Hawa” has nearly three million streams)

Singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle (releasing “City Life” and gaining 200,000 listens)

Arunachalese singer-songwriter Taba Chake, still going strong with over 160,000 monthly listeners for his 2019 album Bombay Dreams and specifically songs like “Aao Chalein.”

Amongst the more surprising inclusions are electronic-fusion singer-producer Kanishk Seth, whose song “Rangi Saari” is nearing 300,000 plays. But also on the list is Chennai/Mumbai pop artist Mali aka Maalavika Manoj, supported by Spotify’s global RADAR program that’s pushed her 2020 single “Age of Limbo” past 100,000 streams.

Prateek Kuhad is an Indian singer-songwriter and a musician who makes independent music. He has gained international notice since his 2015 debut album, In Tokens and Charms. Prateek grew up in the city of Jaipur before moving to the United States for college.

 

2.Thandi Hawa By Ritviz.

Electronic Music Producer Ritviz . The artiste shot to fame after winning the Bacardi House Party sessions last year. His track ‘Udd Gaye’, a lyrical fusion of Indian and electronic music became the new party anthem.

3.Ocean Tide By When Chai Met Toast.

The band’s first album was Joy of Little Things in 2017. The musicians believe that their debut on YouTube and the launch of Spotify in India changed a lot of things for them. “Through YouTube people who had never seen us live started watching our videos and following us. When Spotify was launched in the country last year, they started including our songs in their acoustic and indie playlists which got us more listeners. This is a huge thing for independent musicians who are trying to make a mark,” says Ashwin. The band has over 1.42 lakh listeners on Spotify and over 60 thousand subscribers on YouTube.

Singer-songwriter Anuv Jain released his single, Alag Aasman . Although he started releasing music a few years back i, it wasn’t up until the Lockdown, that Ludhiana born Anuv Jain had decided to become a “full-time” singer-songwriter.

Nikhil DSouza (born 21 November 1981) is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Mumbai, India, and is now signed to East West Records of Warner Music UK.

6.Pause By Prateek Kuhad.

We all know him from kho gaye, from kassor and he never stops to create the most melodic and soulful music .

7.Blush By Taba Chake.

Taba Chake is a finger-style guitar player, singer-songwriter, performer and dreamer from a small town called Doimukh in Arunachal Pradesh. Having grown up in a Nyishi tribal family, his music is inspired by tribal folklore, birds and nature.

8.Modern Loneliness By Ritviz and Lauv

The young star of the Indian independent music scene has created a remix of American singer Lauv’s Modern Loneliness for the series, apart from featuring the original tracks Liggi and its spontaneous energy, Thandi Hawa that celebrates life during a pandemic, and Roshni that conveys anxiousness. It also marks the first step into storytelling for Ritviz, who up until now has concentrated on producing music.

The Local Train is an Indian Hindi rock band from New Delhi. Since its inception in Chandigarh in 2008, the band has gone on to achieve massive commercial success and has become a staple in cultural and music festivals across the country.
